dubious goals panel
  • OH/JL go with: Robert Gray; John Ferguson; Willie Paul, however the press majority goes with Robert Gray (1) and Willie Paul (2). By process of elimination, the doubt seems to centre on the second goal; Fergsuon or Paul? The SC mentions no scorer, although for the third, their report says Paul "again eluded the vigilance of Fairbairn [the Hearts goalie]", which implies he got the second. The GH clearly says Willie Paul got both the second and third. Speaking of Willie Paul, EEN says "The three goals were placed to his credit". By that we presume they mean he got the assist [he set up Gray for the first with a shot across the face of the goals] as well as the two goals. DC says "The veteran Paul fed his wings with great vigour and was always dangerous". The DA says Gray and Paul (2). In summary, with no found reports mentioning a goal for Ferguson, we are obliged to go with Willie Paul for both the second and third Thistle goals. Update: The SR confirms our stated position which now seems very firm.
