Thistle team not given in either the AH nor the AG. Arbroath historian Simon Reynolds advises that the 'D. Milne' is likely to be one and the same as the 'David Milne' who had recently left the area, possibly returning for the new year and featuring as a guest.

Arbroath were obliged to play a cup-tie so provided a team of “casuals“ instead. They got a “rather severe dusting“ (AH). Thistle gave “an excellent exhibition of football“ but it was all too easy.

The Arbroath, in view of their match with the Harp on Saturday, did not themselves play their fixture with the Partick Thistle, but they substituted the team of “Casuals” whom they at first intended to play against on Saturday. The Casuals did not “come off” and got a rather severe dusting, the result being 6 to 1. The Partick Thistle gave an excellent exhibition of football, and during the first period prevented the casuals from scoring, while they themselves put on three goals. In the second period they put on another three goals while the Arbroathians put on their only goal, taken by C. Davidson.
