SC credits Willie Paul with Thistle's third, but OH (by process of elimination), GH and SR all say it was John Proudfoot and we stick with them. SR credits John Proudfoot with Thistle's fifth, but we stick with Robert Currie as per the SC and supplier of our teamlines, GH, which carries a fairly extensive report on the afternoon's events. 3 Proudfoots and 2 Currie's looks like the solid bet here and keeps us in line with the OH.

Queens scored (10) but Proudfoot scored twice (the 2nd a “splendid shot“ (GH)) for 2-1 at half-time. Thistle were certainly the better team. Proudfoot got his hat-trick with a low shot then Currie scored twice for a big (and surprising) win. Late on “play was very rough“ and Paul was sent off (“reckless play“).

Before the semi Thistle had a friendly against Queen’s Park. Although not the force they were, due to non-participation in the league, Queen’s were still a force. Winning 5-1, then, at Hampden, represented a tremendous result. Crozier was excellent, while John Proudfoot scored three. Willie Paul, too, was in good form, so it was regrettable when he was sent off for “rough play”. Paul was distraught – in his career a referee had never cautioned him, and others in the game vouched for his reputation for fair play. Fingers were pointed at Queen’s Park players, who had surrounded the referee, clamouring for Paul to be sent off.
