There are differing accounts for Thistle's two goals; Unknown / Tom Paterson (OH/GH), John Proudfoot / Tom Paterson (JL) and Tom Paterson / Unknown (GT). Confusingly, the GH says Paterson got the second whereas the GT say he got the first, so it's all a bit of a mess. In the difficult circumstances we're inclined to think that the Paterson double is the best option from a bad bunch. GH says “Nisbet” for the PG eq, JL/GT say “Tarbet”. We stick with the latter account.

Port went close with an overhead kick but Thistle went 2-up (probably Paterson, 15 and definitely Paterson, 30). Port reduced the lead on half-time, levelled in the second half and went ahead 30 secs later with a header from a cross from the right. A 4th goal was disallowed (offside) but Thistle were well beaten.
