Freebairn scored but it was soon 1-1 then Motherwell went ahead from a goalmouth scramble. After half-time Harvey's looping shot made it 2-2 but it was disputed as having gone over the bar and arguments broke out. The Motherwell players “lost their heads” (MT) and 2 more goals from Freebairn followed.

League 2d Division at Whiteinch. When Motherwell kicked off there would be about 2,000 spectators present. A run by Freebairn was the first feature of the game but the final effort went wide. Motherwell replied and forced a corner which proved fruitless. Crozier was then tried with a shot from Allan which he fisted out from below the bar. Play was very fast, the backs showing to advantage. After several runs by both teams, Freebairn scored the first goal for the Thistle. Lambie equalised with a long shot. A few minutes later Motherwell forced a corner, and from the scrimmage which followed Allan put the visitors in the ascendency, amidst great excitement. Half-time – Motherwell, 2; Partick Thistle, 1. On restarting, play was brimful of excitement, and raged from goal to goal. Final result- Partick Thistle, 4 goals; Motherwell, 2 goals.
