It only took Vale 5 minutes to score - from a goalmouth scrimmage. Gilchrist soon equalised with “a beauty” (GEP) but then Paul “fractured his shoulder blade” (he missed the rest of the season) and another player was injured. The task of the 9 men was too great in the second half and Vale scored twice more.

This match was played at Whiteinch. The Vale had the advantage of a stiff breeze in the first half, and scored out of a scrimmage two minutes from the start. The Thistle soon equalised through Gilchrist and for some time had the best of it. Two Thistle players received injuries and had to retire. Half-time score:- One goal each. Resuming, each goal was visited in turn. From one of these runs, A. Graham scored for the Vale and later on T. Graham notched a third point. Paul's absence disorganised the home team, and they did not show their usual dash at close quarters. Play continued even till the finish. Result:- Vale, three goals; Partick Thistle, 1 goal.
