Thistle scored through McInnes (8) but Northern equalised soon afterwards. In the second half it was mostly Thistle but their attempts at goal proved fruitless and the visitors got their winner just before the end.

These teams met at Inchview Park, Whiteinch, in their first Alliance engagement. Northern kicked off. Some mid-field play ensued. The Thistle then took the ball downfield but Harvie [sic] shot past. A foul against Stewart gave the Northern a chance of getting away. Paul however soon returned and transferring the ball to McInnes, that player scored for the Thistle eight minutes from the start. Following this Reilly was given a chance, and he piloted the ball past the home custodian, thus equalising the game. Half-time result - 1 goal each. On resuming the Northern quickly forced a corner which went outside. A neat, combined run by the Thistle forwards was cut short by Sincalir and Gossland. Led on by Paul, the Thistle again attacked and although the Partick men continued to have the best of it, did not succeed in adding to their score. Shortly before the whistle sounded, the Northern again scored. Result:- Northern, 2 goals; Partick Thistle, 1 goal.
