On a frost-bound pitch covered with snow, Thistle made early chances and Paul went close but Port came more into it and scored just before half-time. The second half was evenly contested but it was Port who got the second goal to seal the win.

These teams met in a friendly encounter at Inchview. The ground was frost-bound and covered with snow. The Thistle kicked off and at once assumed the offensive. The home forwards were very smart but their opponents offered a stubborn resistance. After Paul had made an attempt, McCaffer sent in a beautiful shot which was saved splendidly. The Thistle then worked the ball to the other end, but without any tangible result. Towards the close of the first half A. McNeil scored for the Athletic. The second half was evenly contested but the Athletic scored again, and won by 2 goals to nil.
