Motherwell and Partick Thistle had their second unsuccessful struggle for supremacy on Dalziel Park on Saturday. Motherwell won the toss and the visitors kicked off. The home team pressed, Steel got the ball within a yard from the Partick goal, but bungled and lost it. The visitors' forwards then put in some good work and McCall was defeated from the left. A minute or two later Motherwell were two down. Towards the close of the first half, Denham scored with a beauty of a shot. The commencement of the second half saw the home team pressing again. Steel caught on and equalised. Galloway passed to Denham and the little favourite placed his team a unit up. But luck had decreed that the game should not end otherwise than did its predecessor. Partick scored, and notwithstanding that Motherwell banged for about ten minutes at their opponents’ goal they failed to again count. The grand stand has been greatly improved by the cover which has been erected over it. How and when it was built, and whence came the flag which floated over it so significantly? were general questions on Saturday. How now about the press box? The stand was well patronised on Saturday, and will doubtless continue to be so, as it affords a shelter from both rain and wind. The crowd which surrounded the ropes amounted to a £20 note anyway. Sneddon was in the grand stand. He considered it “far better to be there than on the field with the risk of having to retire in twenty minutes.” He was suffering from the effects of a slight accident. McCall, who took his place, has not been seen so often on Dalziel Park of late. He was cheered on going on to the field, and played on the whole a good game. Gray was as reliable as ever, but Mathie was off colour. The halves played a hard game, and Govan in particular was the hero of quite a host of successful struggles. McMenemy showed considerable improvement. Cowan and Scott occupied the right wing. Scott was never in it, but Cowan played a hard game, with just a touch of overcautiousness though. Steel made an excellent centre notwithstanding that Paul and his clubmates did all in their power to bottle him up. Galloway was thee player on the field, and he was supported brilliantly by Denham. The largest camera in existence could only have focused a half of the smile which was everywhere visible when Motherwell put on their third goal. The referee was inclined to be over zealous of the interest of both elevens and consequently the number of free kicks was unprecedentedly large. The result – when it is considered both teams will be drawn in the fourth round – is satisfactory in every respect.

At Motherwell on Saturday, these teams met for the second time. Motherwell won the toss. They pressed, and Steel made an attempt to score which was abortive. Then Partick came away and were leading by 2 early in the game. Before crossing over, however, Denholm equalised [ed note: think the reporter meant pulled one back"] with a splendid shot. On crossing over, the home team renewed the agressive attitude assumed at the commencement of the game. Steel scored early and Denholm placed his team a unit up with a scorcher a minute or two later. Partick defeated McCall and equalised. Play to the call of time was fast and interesting. Both teams, and particularly the home eleven, had hard lines in again not counting, the result being again a draw - of 3 goals this time. The two clubs will be drawn for the fourth round of the Scottish Cup ties.
