Thirds took the lead (15) but it was 1-1 soon afterwards (Paul). However, Thistle were second best and trailed 4-1 at half-time. A brave fight in the second half came to nothing. Thistle did get their 2nd by Paul (possibly an og) but Thirds “in irresistible form” (SC) made it 5 near the end.

Against a slight breeze the Volunteers began their game with a vigorous attack on the opposition goal, but Leiper, by a well directed kick, transferred play to mid-field. The Thistle then got in front of Downie, but missed one or two good opportunities of shooting. The splendid all round performances of the Third overcame the tactics of their opponents and Johnstone, from a pass by Ellis, scored their first point. But the Thistle retaliated immediately by scoring a goal at the other extremity. Johnstone, however, placed his team again in the ascendency, and continuing the aggresive policy of the Volunteers scored another goal before half-time. In the second half both teams played brilliantly, but Johnstone smartly placed the ball through for the fifth time. During a scrimmage the ball, which by this time was soaked with rain, slipped off Andrew Thompson's foot and rebounded through the goal. Before the call of time the Volunteers, through a grand effort by Ellis, scored again and the game finished:- Third Lanark, 6 goals; Partick Thistle, 2 goals.
