There's a suggestion at the GH that Thistle's opener was an o.g. by Cunningham of Celtic, but this may simply be a clumsily worded report. The only account of the actual goal that we've seen (in the SR) credits John M. Harvey and we are compelled to go with that.

First ever win against Celtic. Harvey put Thistle ahead (hint of an og) but Celtic player involved made amends for 1-1 and Celtic (not exactly at full strength) were 2-1 ahead at half-time. Thistle had the best of things after that and 4 goals (playing against the wind) by Ingram, Murray, Bruce and Paul turned it round for a 5-2 win.

The opening game at Inchview Park, Whiteinch, was played on Saturday before fully 2,000 spectators. The Celtic kicked off against a strong breeze. The game was evenly contested for some time. Having scored the first goal for the Thistle ten minutes after the start, Cunningham equalised with a good shot. Kyle added a second goal for the Celts. Half-time result:-Celtic, 2 goals, Partick Thistle, 1 goal. The second half was mostly in favour of the Thistle, who, although playing against the wind, had the best of the game. Ingram equalised. Murray added a third point for the Thistle and ere the close, Bruce and Paul each added a goal to the total, while the Celtic failed to improve their position. Final result:- Partick Thistle, 5 goals; Celtic, 2 goals.

The Partick Thistle had their ground opened for the season by the Celtic, who journeyed thither to favour them with their presence. The sun shone brightly. The Thistle proved victorious by five goals to two.
