The OH (by process of elimination) and the GH credit Billy Fleming with Thistle's third, but the EC makes the curious statement “… although Davie was credited with it, still it was mainly due to Bennett.” Since (James Henry) Davie was not in the quoted line-up at either the GH, EC or the OH), sticking with Fleming is an easy choice.

Early Thistle pressure came to nothing and Linthouse took the lead. Miller equalised after a good run by Bennett but the visitors scored 3 either side of half-time. Miller and Fleming made it 3-4 but there was to be no equaliser and Linthouse scored late on.

Played at Inchview Park before a good attendance of spectators. Losing the toss, the Thistle kicked off. They pressed for some time, but failed to score. Then the Linthouse got away and, from a pass by J. Steel, Jacky Smith put on the first goal. The Thistle retaliated, and after a good run by Bennett, Miller equalised. Open play followed till Linthouse again scored, T. Smith having the honour this time. Keeping at it, the Linthouse soon had a third goal, Jacky Smith getting the point after a run by Hurry. Following this, each goal was assailed in turn. The Thistle strove hard to improve their position but the opposing defence was more than they could master. At half-time the result was:- Linthouse, 3 goals; Partick Thistle, 1 goal. On resuming, Thistle obtained a corner, which proved fruitless. J. Steel notched a fourth goal for Linthouse from a splendid centre by Hurry. Some time later Miller scored the second goal for Thistle. Fleming added a third goal for the home team. Before the close the Linthouse put on a spurt and added a fifth goal. No further scoring took place. Final result:- Linthouse, 5 goals; Partick Thistle, 3 goals.
