The pitch was “in very bad condition” (GH). With a blizzard blowing into the home team's faces, Thistle took a 2-goal lead. It was 4-2 at half-time. In the 2nd Thistle collapsed and Northern scored 7. SR reported that the game should never have been allowed to finish. Only 5 players a-side managed to brave it out until the end.

At Hyde Park. Snow was falling heavily and spectators were few. The Thistle led from the start, and within 5 minutes scored twice. The Northern from a corner scored their first goal. They were unfortunate in shooting, and missed some good chances. At half-time the score was:- Thistle, four goals; Northern, three goals. On restarting, the Northern fairly astonished the Thistle by their play. With the wind in their favour, they added goal after goal. Only occasionally did the Thistle break away and with one combined run managed to make their fourth goal. The defence of the Thistle was good, but the Northern did all the pressure, and the game ended:- Northern, nine goals; Partick Thistle, four.
