In half-melted snow and ice, Thistle got off to a good start with a goal from Gilchrist. Bootle levelled then Paul had a goal disallowed for off-side. He scored before half-time however. It was 2-2 soon after the break and a keenly fought second half saw both teams enjoy spells of pressure but neither could find the net again.

Played on the Bootle ground, before 3,000 people. The Scotchmen opened well, leading by 2 goals to 1 at half-time. Bootle went off with a dash in the second half, and soon equalised. Playing the best game, the visitors made a strong attempt to get ahead, as also did the home team, but the game ended in a draw of two goals each.
