APJ (6th January 1890) lists “Hill” (presumably Hugh Hill) and “C. Proudfoot” (no such person to our knowledge presumably William Proudfoot as per the rest of the New Year tour) at the expense of “David Hislop” and “Walter McLean” as per the OH. There's doubt over who scored Thistle's third. The AFP reports that “a miskick by A. Wood enabled Paul to notch a third point for the Thistle” whereas the APJ writes that “from a good run up the field by Drummond, Hill added a third goal for the strangers”. They don't even sound like they're describing the same goal! We've checked several papers and, unfortunately, these are the only sources quoting Thistle scorers. It's not ideal, but we've opted for the AFP account since it names 5 scorers as opposed to 4 in the APJ. OH offers no scorers at all.

It was end to end stuff in an exciting friendly. Johnston put Thistle ahead but a miss-hit shot baffled McCorkindale for 1-1. Johnston scored again then Paul scored for 3-1. Aberdeen scored just before h-t. The second half was mostly Thistle and 2 more goals (scorer(s) unknown) made it 5-2. Aberdeen wilted badly in the second half.

Played at Chanonry on Saturday, before a good attendance of spectators. The Aberdeen won the toss, and after the kick-off looked like scoring. About 15 minutes after the start, Johnston drew blood first for the strangers, but immediately after, Farnworth, sending in a grounder, equalised amid great cheers; and before half-time was called the strangers scored other two, while MeVay, who looked dangerous before and after, scored number 2 for the Whites. During the second-half the strangers had by far the best of the game, and managed to notch other 2 points, but the Aberdeen defence was playing a splendid game and gave the Thistle forwards hard work. A pleasant game ended Partick Thistle 5; Aberdeen, 2.
