CFF lists “Bishop” (11) for Thistle, but we rather think this is a mis-heard or mis-typed “Hislop”. Two accounts support this; LAG's report has Hislop, and the OH has Hislop (10). We further note that the OH lists Andrew Mackay (11) at the expense of J. Kelly, but the fact that the latter is a named scorer in two press accounts casts doubt over the OH line-up. The OH credits Andrew Johnston with Thistle's goal, but CFF/PH/STS both say it was J. Kelly and we go with them. SI credits Ross with Preston's opener, but CFF/LAG/STS all say it was Goodall and we go with the majority.

6,000 saw a close match against League and Cup double winners Preston. They were thwarted by “the fine defensive work of the Scotchmen” (GH). They scored (19) and had another disallowed (22) but Thistle equalised on half-time (Kelly). There was a winner (85) but it was a fine performance, particularly by McCorkindale.

Played at Preston before 6,000 spectators. The game was very keenly contested throughout, and the issue was in doubt right up to the finish. Preston did most of the attacking, but their efforts were repeatedly frustrated by the fine defence of the Scotchmen. In the end Preston gained a hard earned victory by 2 goals to 1.
