  • Teamlines per GEP, OH concurs (albeit with a swap around between 4 and 6).

  • The EC reports the half-time score to be 3-2 for Renton, but detailed reports in the GH and GEP agree with the 3-1 HT score. Further, the GH contends that Thistle made it 1-1 in the first half, but both the GEP & NBDM reports state that Renton were 3 up before Thistle scored. As if that wasn't bad enough, reports disagree on the identity of our first scorer! GEP says Paul's shot hit the bar and Suter headed the ball past the keeper. EC report is one paragraph with no scorers identified. GH says "Johnstone managed to equalise the game". SC says Paul hit the top of the bar and Suter headed under the bar before the keeper could clear. NBDM says a shot by Suter hit the post and rebounded to Marshall and Buchanan and “a fine piece of breasting by the forwards carried a neat goal”. The OH goes with Andrew Johnston per GH, but on the basis of two decent descriptions, Paul's shot with Jerry Suter on the rebound seems the best guess. The sequence of Renton's 2nd & 3rd scorers could be McCall / Campbell or Campbell / McCall depending on which paper you believe. Thistle's second goal is also problematic. The OH again goes with Andrew Johnston, thereby contending that he netted a brace on the day. However, none of the aforementioned papers credit him. In fact, of those papers, only the NBDM actually names the second scorer, and they go with Bob Marshall, so we're inclined to go along with that. Horrible stuff for historians all in all.
