To open Athletic's new ground (St James). They scored (3) but Thistle equalised (6) then went ahead but it was 2-2 at half-time. In the second half Thistle were under pressure and soon it was 4-2. They contested the 4th goal (as off-side) and threatened to quit - but didn't - and a goal to either team finished the scoring.

DUMBARTON ATHLETIC v PARTICK THISTLE – The Partick Thistle visited Dumbarton on Saturday afternoon for the purpose of opening St James’ Park, the new ground of the Dumbarton Athletic. The match was the first of the season, and the day being fine, a large number of spectators were attracted. The Athletic kicked-off and in three minutes scored, but in other three minutes the Thistle had equalised, and in a same period had put themselves in a lead by scoring a second goal. Before the first half terminated the Athletic equalised. The first half was evenly contested, but the second half the Athletic did all the pressing, and soon had a couple more goals. The last of these the Thistle protested on the score of offside, but the referee gave a goal. The Thistle were not pleased at this, and for some time refused to play, but ultimately the game proceeded and resulted in each side scoring another goal, the game ending – Athletic, five goals, Thistle, three.
