To the accompaniment of the Whiteinch Reed Band during the match (GEP), Duff in goal kept Vale out “with his hands or otherwise” (GH). Marshall ran the length of the pitch but was stopped in his tracks. Johnston's high shot which caught the keeper's finger tips on the way in (15) was the only goal.
