Initial pressure by the locals came to nothing then Thistle broke and scored. Strathmore went down to 10 men (20) and the task was beyond them. 5 goals in either half emphasised how one-sided it was. “Thistle's great pace showed hard against the Strathmore” (DC).

STRATHMORE (DUNDEE) v. PARTICK THISTLE. This match came off yesterday on the ground of the Strathmore at Rollo’s Pier. The weather was dull and foggy, but nevertheless a very large number of spectators turned out to witness the game.

Following up the kick off, the Strathmore were at once at the strangers’ goal, but the shot by McLean failed to take effect. The kick from the goal was, however, fully returned, but a “hand” having been claimed against the Strathmore just in front of the Partick Thistle goal, the ball was returned to the other end in a crack, and the strangers scored easily. Following this for some time, the play was of a very fast description, the ball travelling rapidly from end to end of the field, and the goal of the strangers was as frequently in imminent danger of falling as that of the local club. Within twenty minutes of the start however, Mitchell, one of the Strathmore backs, was so severely injured by a fall resulting from a charge that he had to leave the ground, and from this point to the finish the Partick team as a rule played an attacking game, although a few plucky but fruitless raids were made by the Strathmore, whose defence, it may here be remarked, was certainly not equal to that shown by them on Saturday.

Before “time” gave the players a brief breathing space, the strangers had secured five goals to nothing, and in the second period, the play in which generally resembled that of the latter part of the first period, and requires no particular comment, they exactly doubled this total, the game finishing in their favour by ten goals to none. All the strangers were in excellent form, and their great pace told hard against the Strathmore, who altogether did not seem to be in their best condition, although some very commendable play was occasionally shown by several of the individual members particularly Robertson, Cook, Henry, McLean, Scott and Lamb. Today the Strathmore plays the Dumbarton, the start being fixed for twelve o’clock.
