STRATHMORE (DUNDEE) v. PARTICK THISTLE (GLASGOW). This match was played off at Rollo’s Pier, Dundee, yesterday afternoon in presence of a large concourse of enthusiastic and interested spectators. Play was commenced at 12.45 by Henry for the Strathmore, kicking off, and the ball not being well returned it remained in the Thistle’s territory for some time, but ultimately went behind. On the ball being again set in motion it was carried well up to the Strathmore’s goal, but owing to the good play of the home backs, nothing came of the run. Shortly after this, the Thistle made a determined onslaught on the home fortress, and succeeded in lowering the colours, this feat being received with loud cheers. Before the call of time, the home forwards, who were at this period playing well together, succeeded in carrying the ball past the strangers backs, and equalled matters for a time by scoring a goal from a flying shot. On change of ends, and with a pretty stiff wind blowing, the Thistle forwards (who are one and all excellent exponents of the dribbling game) during the latter period of the game now showed their superiority by repeatedly carrying the leather well up to the home fortress, and scoring four consecutive goals. The Strathmore now pulled together and broke away, and succeeded in scoring, but was disallowed on account of the referee not being able to decide whether it was a goal or not. After this, no further scoring took place, and the match, which was an exceedingly pleasant one throughout, resulted in favour of the Thistle by five goals to one.
