Bio Extra

We think this mystery goalkeeper was only a trialist, although we can't be absolutely certain. Lambie took his troops over to Northern Ireland in late July 1993, where they played 4 games in the space of 8 days. The game at Shamrock Park (a 2-1 win over Portadown) rounded off the tour on Saturday, 31st July, 1993.

Thistle were second best early on but a bizarre goal when Albert Craig scored with a 20-yard free-kick (keeper handled outside his area) before the wall was in place put them ahead. Port levelled through Robert Casey 12 mins later from 12 yards. Just before half-time, Gerry Britton broke down the left and Roddy Grant nodded past the bemused keeper for a rather lucky win.

Nothing was said of Marshall's performance in any of the reports that we've seen and, indeed, the only evidence that he was involved at all comes in the first home match programme of the season (14th August 1993) which indicates that he replaced Craig Nelson at some point during the game, presumably during the second half as Nelson's name still appears in reports relating to that period.

We also note that a local footballer by the name of John Crumlin tried for Thistle in two games of this tour and, indeed, he lined up in the Portadown game in question. Since Marshall is otherwise unknown in the PTFC squad ranks, it could well be that he too was a local being given an opportunity.
