Mark McChrystal was born on Tuesday, 26th June, 1984, in Derry, County Derry.

The 6' 1 (13st 8lbs) defender signed for Dick Campbell's Thistle on Monday, 1st January, 2007, having most recently been with Derry City.

Aged 22, he made his debut appearance on Tuesday, 2nd January, 2007, in a 2-0 defeat away to Clyde in the SFL First Division.

Mark scored his only goal for Thistle on Saturday, 27th January, 2007, in a 4-3 defeat away to Queen of the South in the SFL First Division.

He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 28th April, 2007, in a 0-0 draw at home to Livingston in the SFL First Division, having appeared as a Jag on 18 occasions.

Mark's club-list included Wolverhampton Wanderers, Bradford City, Derry City, Institute, Partick Thistle, Lisburn Distillery, Tranmere Rovers, Scunthorpe United, Bristol Rovers and Crusaders.

This left-footed defender gained schoolboy caps while at St. Columb's College in his native Derry, and added Under-18 caps whilst at Wolves in 2003. He appeared nine times for Northern Ireland's Under 21 team, making his debut on 18 August 2004 against Switzerland, with his last appearance coming almost two years later on 16 August 2006 against Romania. Seven years at Derry City were interrupted by a 4 month spell at Thistle under Ian McCall from January 2007. Made well over 100 appearances for Britol Rovers between 2013-2017. Holds a degree in Business Studies with Accounts. Went into coaching at Derry after he retired from playing in 2021.
