![]() Mark Wilson was born on Tuesday, 5th June 1984, in Glasgow. He is currently operating as head coach of Partick Thistle. MANAGERIAL SPELL(Tue-18-Feb-2025 ↔ to date) After the sacking of Kris Doolan, the club-board followed in the age-old tradition of looking within for a temporary solution, and club captain Brian Graham, together with U-18s coach Mark Wilson, were immediately announced as co-caretakers. The two - ex teammates at Dundee United and pals off the pitch - talked football together all the time so the partnership was very natural to both men. Although there were encouraging signs of a little more commitment from the players in many of the games, the end results were much the same. That said, securing 4th place was mission accomplished financially. To be fair, injuries meant that promotion via the play-offs was never a realistic prospect.
Following defeat to Livingston in the play-offs, Thistle, led by new sporting director Ian Baraclough (appointed 7 April 2025), drew up a shortlist which included Brian Graham, Dougie Imrie, Paul Caddis and Jake McPake. After exploring those options, Brian Graham was reportedly offered (and turned down) the job. Mark Wilson - who hadn't been publicly quoted in any short list - was then offered the position. It was a surprise move without historical precedent, the first time that a co-caretaker emerged on his own as the new gaffer, albeit he was termed the head coach under the new sporting director. With his previous record in senior management, Wilson did not seem like an ideal choice in the eyes of some, although he came across as articulate, assured and tactically astute during his co-caretaker spell. The sporting director / head coach set-up is a new approach by the club and we wish them well in this dawning of a new era. Mark has also managed at Airdrieonians (2016-2017) and Brechin City (2019-2020). |
