![]() Adam McLean was born Wednesday, 27th April, 1898, in Greenock, Renfrewshire. He had one spell as caretaker at Firhill. CARETAKER SPELL(Mon-24-Aug-1959 ↔ Fri-24-Sep-1959; 31 days) Following the sudden death of David Meiklejohn from a heart-attack, it was announced that “trainer Adam McLean will have charge of the players with the directors looking after the administrative side.” This was good news, as Adam was Thistle from a boy, and he was always keen to be involved at Firhill. He played for the club in 1933, albeit his best days were behind him by then, and we believe that he was involved on the coaching side after that, although more research is needed on that front. We're also led to believe that he coached in Norway from 1939 onwards. We're unsure exactly when Adam arrived back at Firhill, but for sure he was quoted as a trainer in the close season of 1957, and had held the position since at least then.
Adam continued to work under Willie Thornton as the number two, alongside Jackie Husband, who himself became the first team trainer as the 60s progressed. He was in charge of Thistle for 7 games in total, his only managed club as far we know. Adam died on Friday, 29th June, 1973, in Glasgow, aged 75. |
