| Liam Rooney |
Liam Rooney was born on Wednesday, 16th July 2008, in Glasgow. The 6' 1 defender was introduced to Brian Graham & Mark Wilson's Thistle in March, 2025, whilst a Partick Thistle U-18s player. Aged 16, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 12th April, 2025, in a 2-1 defeat at home to Hamilton Academical in the SPFL Championship. We look forward to seeing him score his first goal for Thistle. Liam's club-list includes Partick Thistle and Pollok, where is currently on-loan for the duration of the 2025-26 season. He's contracted at Firhill until May, 2027. |
![]() As a 15-year-old, Liam got a taster of U-18s in October 2023, turning out in the 8-0 Scottish Cup win over Dunipace. As a 16-year-old, he became the regular right back of the 18s in 2024-25, and also featured in the Glasgow Cup for Thistle Reserves. The season got off to a great start in July when the Foyle Cup was won in Derry and Liam even got on the scoresheet in the group stages. After a hard-fought nil nil stalemate against the Middlesbrough lads, the final was decided on penalty kicks. It was a high-quality shoot-out and Thistle were on the brink of defeat when Luis Cameron saved at 3-4 to keep the Jags alive and it went to sudden death. Another save at 7-7 gave Liam the chance to win it for Thistle and he slotted home, sparking scenes of great celebration! With the departure of Kris Doolan as first-team manager in early 2025, U-18s gaffer Mark Wilson was called up as co-interim boss alongside Brian Graham. This led to a few call ups for the youngsters and Liam, along with Academy mate Nick Lockhart, got the nod to be part of the matchday squads in the springtime of 2025. He didn't have to wait too long for his professional debut, coming on in a league match vs. Hamilton at Firhill in mid-April - less than 20 hours after having turned out for the 18s! He acquitted himself very well indeed, putting in a confident and energetic performance; but for better finishing from the Thistle #9, he would have registered an excellent assist too. Following this promising introduction, Liam joined Mark Wilson's Jags for pre-season training in the summer of 2025 and, on 20th June 2025, he signed a two year modern apprenticeship deal with the club. Along with his Academy teammate Alex Mann, Liam headed for Pollok in the West of Scotland Premier in mid January 2026, on a loan-deal 'til the end of the season. |
