general notes
  • The SFL took the decision to close down for the duration of the War and teams were allowed to form their own competitions. The Southern League was formed from 13 clubs who’d contested the Regional League West in the preceding season, with Queen of the South, Kilmarnock and Ayr United being ousted to make way for Heart of Midlothian, Hibernian and Falkirk. These sixteen sides would be the sole competitors in the League for five seasons in a row.
  • 2 points for a win.
  • Those finishing level on points were placed in order of superior goal average.
  • Tabulated by The Thistle Archive; all 240 match results have been press-verified for accuracy.
