general notes
  • The wartime SFL First & Second Division season of 1939-40 (5 & 4 games gone) was abandoned as the SFL reorganised into Western and Eastern Divisions. The one-off Western Division included 13 teams from last season's First Division (including Queen's Park who had been relegated) and 3 teams from last season's Second Division - Airdrieonians (4th), Dumbarton (11th) and Morton (12th).
  • 2 points for a win.
  • Those finishing level on points were placed in order of superior goal average.
  • Later in this season, it was decided that the Scottish champions would be especially determined by a play-off match between the winners of the Western Division and the Eastern Division. It was played at Ibrox 1st June 1940 - Rangers 2 Falkirk 1.
  • Tabulated by The Thistle Archive; all 240 match results have been press-verified for accuracy.
