John Workman |
John Workman was born on Monday, 27th June, 1966, in Glasgow. The 5' 9½ (10st 3lbs) defender signed for Benny Rooney's Thistle circa Saturday, 9th June, 1984, having most recently been with Drumchapel Amateurs. Aged 18, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 28th July, 1984, in a 2-0 friendly defeat away to Queen's Park. There were no goals for John during his time with Thistle. He played his last game for the club on Tuesday, 18th April, 1989, in a 1-0 win away to Queen's Park in the Glasgow Cup, having clocked up 128 appearances as a Jag. John's club-list included Drumchapel Amateurs, Partick Thistle, Stranraer and East Stirlingshire. |
Signed from Drumchapel Amateurs in 1984 at a time when Thistle fans were used to seeing players going through the motions with little effort. The commitment shown by John Workman meant that he was a popular player; his tremendous enthusiasm for the game overcame his limited technique, and many people were very disappointed to see him leave in 1989. Moved to Stranraer before signing for East Stirling. |
