Bio Extra

Little is known of this player who played on both sides of the forward line during his short trial period in the springtime of 1904. He played with Glasgow Junior League outfit, Co-operative United.

He made his debut appearance in the somewhat shabby Inter City League, the 2-2 draw with Queen's Park being the Thistle's 7th of 8 scheduled games in the 1903-04 competition. Our 8th and final game (vs Celtic) was never played. Celtic only managed to fulfil 2 of their 9 games in the competition. The competition crawled on sporadically for a couple of years (Thistle never took part again) but was eventually scrapped altogether by the end of the decade. Also on trial that afternoon was William Anderson (Parkhead) at right back. Neither of the two were signed to terms, although Anderson rose to prominence at Motherwell the following season.

John featured in two further friendly games in May; a 1-0 defeat away to Albion Rovers and 2-1 defeat at home to Queen's Park. It's easy to imagine that the executive may have been rather underwhelmed.
