John McGourty was born on Wednesday, 10th July, 1912, in Fauldhouse, West Lothian.

The forward signed for Donald Turner's Thistle on Wednesday, 5th August, 1931, having most recently been with Fauldhouse United.

Aged 19, he made his debut appearance on Wednesday, 19th August, 1931, in a 3-0 win away to Airdrieonians in the SFL First Division.

John scored his first goal for Thistle on Saturday, 14th November, 1931, in a 2-1 win away to Celtic in the SFL First Division.

He scored the last of his 7 goals on Monday, 18th April, 1932, in a 3-1 win away to Plymouth Argyle in a Benefit match.

He played his last game for the club on Tuesday, 3rd May, 1932, in a 2-1 defeat at home to Celtic in the Glasgow Charity Cup, having appeared as a Jag on 35 occasions.

His club-list included Fauldhouse United, Partick Thistle, Everton, Hamilton Academical, Waterford and Ipswich Town.

John died in 1999, aged 86 or 87. *
