John Beattie Mather was born Friday, 31st August, 1917, in Glasgow.

The midfielder signed for Donald Turner's Thistle on Saturday, 29th May, 1943, having most recently been with Rutherglen Glencairn.

Aged 25, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 14th August, 1943, in a 3-2 win away to Heart of Midlothian in the Southern League.

There were no goals for John during his spell with Thistle.

He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 4th September, 1943, in a 1-0 defeat at home to Morton in the Southern League, having appeared as a Jag on 3 occasions.

John's club-list included Rutherglen Glencairn, Partick Thistle and Falkirk.

John died in 1994, in Leven, Fife, aged 77. *
