Bio Extra

Son of Archibald & Margaret Hastie (née Russell). He married Elizabeth Peacock Wilson on Hogmanay, 1903 - a double celebration! They went on to have 10 children in 19 years.

John had a decent run at outside left when he first arrived at Meadowside, but in time fell behind John Wilkie and Robert Gray in the pecking order, and had a 4 month loan spell at Bathgate in 1903-04. He was a registered Jag for several seasons, but first team appearances fell away to nothing, and he had longer loan spells away at Dykehead and Hearts. He finally got settled at Hamilton Academical for just over 3 seasons, signing in April, 1910. He was a near ever-present for them in their top-flight campaign of 1910-11. Brilliantly, the Accies got to the Scottish Cup final that season, drawing 0-0 before losing out 2-0 to Celtic in the replay. John appeared at inside left in both games and duly received a runners-up medal.

He finished his career in 1914-15 with Dykehead of the Scottish Union League (a competition which was not completed that season) and received another runners-up medal, this time in the reasonably prestigious Scottish Qualifying Cup, losing out 3-0 to St Bernard's in the end.
