John Connelly |
John Connelly was probably born in Scotland, although his place and date of birth remain unknown to us. * The forward signed for Derek Johnstone's Thistle on Tuesday, 30th December, 1986, having most recently been with Glasgow Perthshire. He made his debut appearance on Saturday, 24th January, 1987, in a 1-1 draw away to East Fife in the SFL First Division. That day, John became a member of our scoring debutant's club. He played his last game for the club on Tuesday, 10th March, 1987, in a 1-0 defeat at home to Celtic in the Glasgow Cup, having appeared as a Jag on 6 occasions. His club-list included Glasgow Perthshire, Partick Thistle and Petershill. John died in Spring, 1988. *

Tall centre-forward who was signed from Glasgow Perthshire by Derek Johnstone. Despite scoring on his debut he was not given a run in the team, appearing usually as a substitute. He appeared to struggle to make the step-up from the juniors, and returned to Petershill and then Perthshire at the end of the season. Tragically died in a car crash; Thistle played in a benefit match for his family. |
