 John Cairney was probably born in Scotland, although his place and date of birth remain unknown to us. * The midfielder signed for Thistle on Saturday, 3rd September, 1898. He made his first known appearance on Saturday, 15th October, 1898, in a 5-1 defeat away to Heart of Midlothian in the SFL First Division. There were no known goals for John during his spell with Thistle. He played his second (and last known) game for the club on Saturday, 22nd October, 1898, in a 3-2 win away to St Bernard's in the SFL First Division. His known club-list included only Partick Thistle. We don't know where or when John died. *
