Aged 23, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 10th December, 1983, in a 1-0 defeat away to Clydebank in the SFL First Division.

John kept his first clean-sheet on Monday, 26th December, 1983, in a 1-0 win at home to Dumbarton in the SFL First Division.

He registered the last of his 37 clean-sheets on Tuesday, 28th March, 1989, in a 0-0 draw away to Clyde in the SFL First Division.

Bio Extra

Signed from Hearts in December 1983 after winning Under-21 honours. Good keeper who was extremely popular in his early time at Firhill. Missed many games through injury during his career here, and his popularity waned after he showed great inconsistency and a poor attitude. He was given a free transfer at the end of 88-89 and, unable to find a senior club, he joined Dunbar United.
