John Lockhart Abbie was born on Sunday, 30th November, 1919, in Burntisland, Fife.

The defender signed for Donald Turner's Thistle on Thursday, 20th August, 1936, having most recently been with Crossgates Primrose.

Aged 17, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 20th March, 1937, in a 2-2 draw at home to Falkirk in the SFL First Division.

There were no goals for John during his spell with Thistle.

He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 7th June, 1941, in a 3-1 defeat at home to St Mirren in the Summer Cup, having appeared as a Jag on 4 occasions.

His club-list included Crossgates Primrose, Partick Thistle, St Bernard's and Raith Rovers.

John died on Sunday, 23rd April, 2000, in Kirkcaldy, Fife, aged 80.

John Abbie (aka Jack) joined Thistle in August 1936 from Crossgates Primrose. As a 17-year-old he made his debut against Falkirk in the SFL Division 1 and the match at Firhill ended 2-2. The defender played for Thistle on 4 occasions. He was a regular reserve team player for the seasons 1936-37 through to 1939-40. He went on to play for St Bernards and Raith Rovers. Jack played for his regimental side, the Royal Signals, and a Sunday Post report of 28 February 1943 describes him as a “prolific scorer”. He passed away in Kirkcaldy on 23 April 2000, aged 80.
