Joseph James Sweeney was born on Tuesday, 19th February, 1957, in Glasgow.

The 5' 10 (13st 5lbs) forward signed for Peter Cormack's Thistle on Tuesday, 30th December, 1980, having most recently been with Clydebank.

Aged 23, he made his debut appearance on Thursday, 1st January, 1981, in a 1-1 draw away to Rangers in the SFL Premier Division.

There were no goals for Joe during his time with Thistle.

He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 27th March, 1982, in a 2-0 defeat at home to Dundee in the SFL Premier Division, having appeared as a Jag on 19 occasions.

Joe's club-list included Benburb, Pollok, Clydebank and Partick Thistle.

A fighting display won the silverware as Thistle withstood Celtic's pressure. They hit the bar with a 30-yard volley (8) but their forwards couldn't find the net. The winner was a glorious goal by Jardine who took a Park pass in his stride and crashed it home from 25 yards (30) and Rough saved the day late on.
