James Kerr was born on Saturday, 17th January, 1959, in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire.

The defender signed for Bobby Watson's Thistle in October, 1988, having most recently been with Hamilton Academical.

Aged 29, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 22nd October, 1988, in a 4-1 win away to Queen of the South in the SFL First Division.

Jim scored his first goal for Thistle on Saturday, 10th December, 1988, in a 2-0 win away to Meadowbank Thistle in the SFL First Division.

He scored the last of his 3 goals on Saturday, 26th August, 1989, in a 2-2 draw at home to Clyde in the SFL First Division.

He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 5th May, 1990, in a 1-1 draw at home to Raith Rovers in the SFL First Division, having appeared as a Jag on 71 occasions.

Jim's club-list included Stonehouse Violet, Dundee United, Airdrieonians, Raith Rovers, Brechin City, Falkirk, Hamilton Academical, Partick Thistle, Stirling Albion, Albion Rovers, Arbroath and Armadale Thistle.

Man of many clubs, Jim joined Thistle in mid-season and showed his versatility by playing in several positions. He eventually settled down playing at sweeper, his best position, during 89/90. During the close season of 1990 he joined Stirling Albion.
