James Conway was born on Tuesday, 27th August, 1940, in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire. The 5' 10 (11st 0lbs) forward signed for Willie Thornton's Thistle on Wednesday, 30th June, 1965, having most recently been with Southend United. Aged 24, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 14th August, 1965, in a 0-0 draw at home to Dunfermline Athletic in the League Cup. Jim scored his first two goals for Thistle on Wednesday, 22nd September, 1965, in a 6-2 friendly win away to Queen of the South. He scored the last of his 4 goals on Saturday, 6th November, 1965, in a 1-1 draw away to Celtic in the SFL First Division. He played his last game for the club on Monday, 8th November, 1965, in a 1-0 defeat at home to Third Lanark in the Glasgow Cup, having appeared as a Jag on 7 occasions. Jim's club-list included Coltness United, Celtic, Norwich City, Southend United, Partick Thistle and Portadown. |
