James Marshall was probably born in Scotland, although his place and date of birth remain unknown to us. * The goalkeeper joined Thistle in 1890, having most recently been with Rangers. He made his first known appearance on Saturday, 22nd February, 1890, in an 8-1 friendly win at home to Clyde. James kept his only known clean-sheet on Saturday, 5th March, 1892, in a 5-0 win at home to East Stirlingshire in the Scottish Alliance League. He played his last known game for the club on Saturday, 10th September, 1892, in a 2-1 win away to Cambuslang in the Scottish Alliance League, having appeared for the Thistle on at least 27 occasions. His club-list included Rangers and Partick Thistle. We don't know where or when James died. *
