James Gardiner was born in Longriggend, North Lanarkshire, although his date of birth remains unknown to us. *

The 5' 9 (12st 4lbs) midfielder signed for George Easton's Thistle on Saturday, 17th June, 1916, having most recently been with Airdriehill Shamrock.

He made his debut appearance on Saturday, 9th September, 1916, in a 2-0 defeat at home to Rangers in the Glasgow Cup.

There were no goals for James during his time with Thistle.

He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 10th May, 1919, in a 2-1 friendly defeat away to Bathgate, having appeared as a Jag on 20 occasions.

His club-list included Airdriehill Shamrock and Partick Thistle.
