James Bowie Dyer was born on Wednesday, 27th August, 1913, in Glasgow.

The defender signed for Donald Turner's Thistle on Tuesday, 20th August, 1940, having most recently been with Ayr United.

Aged 26, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 24th August, 1940, in a 1-0 win at home to Albion Rovers in the Southern League.

There were no goals for James during his spell with Thistle.

He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 9th November, 1940, in a 0-0 draw away to Third Lanark in the Southern League, having appeared as a Jag on 8 occasions.

James's club-list included Rutherglen Glencairn, Glasgow Perthshire, East Fife, Ayr United, Chester, Crewe Alexandra and Partick Thistle.

James died in 1993, in Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire, aged 80.
