J. Curran |
J. Curran was probably born in Northern Ireland, although his place and date of birth remain unknown to us. * The goalkeeper guested for George Easton's Thistle in April, 1912, whilst a Black Diamonds player. He made his debut appearance on Monday, 22nd April, 1912, in a 2-1 friendly defeat away to Shotts United. There were no clean-sheets for Curran during his spell with Thistle. He played his second and last game for the club on Wednesday, 24th April, 1912, in a 3-1 friendly defeat away to Dunfermline Athletic. His club-list included Black Diamonds and Partick Thistle. We don't know where or when Curran died. *

This 'keeper spent at least two seasons with Belfast junior outfit, Black Diamonds, in 1910-11 & 1911-12. He played in several representative matches and actually turned out at Firhill before he'd even featured as a Jag, his Irish Junior League team losing out to their Scottish counterparts by 4 goals to 1 on that particular occasion. In April 1912, whilst holidaying in Glasgow, he appeared in a couple of midweek friendlies for Thistle, alongside such luminaries as Alec Raisbeck, Willie Bulloch and John King. 1911-12 was an enjoyable season for Curran, and he earned a winners medal in the long-running Steel & Sons Cup, the Diamonds defeating Ollardale by 3 goals to 1 at the Balmoral Showgrounds in Lisburn. |
