Ian Thomson was born on Friday, 24th September, 1965, in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire. The 6' 0 (11st 7lbs) midfielder signed for Billy Lamont's Thistle circa Saturday, 2nd July, 1988, having most recently been with Stenhousemuir. Aged 22, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 30th July, 1988, in a 2-0 friendly win away to Alloa Athletic. Ian scored his only two goals for Thistle on the same day; on Saturday, 22nd October, 1988, in a 4-1 win away to Queen of the South in the SFL First Division. He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 13th May, 1989, in a 1-1 draw away to Raith Rovers in the SFL First Division, having appeared as a Jag on 30 occasions. Ian's club-list included Dunipace, Stenhousemuir, Partick Thistle, Queen of the South, Raith Rovers and Clydebank. |
Ian had made a name for himself as one of the top players in the Second Division while playing for Stenhousemuir, and signed for Thistle in 1988. He started the season regularly in the first team, but was unable to play well enough to merit a long run. He scored twice for Thistle, both goals against Queen of the South in one match at Palmerston. At the end of the season he joined the Dumfries CID. |
