 Ian Gibson was born on Tuesday, 24th July, 1956, in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire. The 5' 11 (11st 0lbs) midfielder signed for Bertie Auld's Thistle on Thursday, 12th September, 1974, having most recently been with Coltness United. Aged 19, he made his debut appearance on Tuesday, 5th August, 1975, in a 1-1 friendly draw away to Clydebank. Ian scored his first goal for Thistle on Saturday, 26th March, 1977, in a 2-0 win at home to Heart of Midlothian in the SFL Premier Division. He scored the last of his 19 goals on Saturday, 6th September, 1980, in a 4-1 defeat away to Celtic in the SFL Premier Division. He played his last game for the club on Wednesday, 8th October, 1980, in a 1-0 defeat at home to Celtic in the League Cup, having clocked up 159 appearances as a Jag. Ian's club-list included Coltness United, Partick Thistle, Dundee United, Morton, St Johnstone, Raith Rovers and Arbroath. |
