 Ian Cowan was born on Monday, 27th November, 1944, in Falkirk. The 5' 8 (10st 5lbs) forward signed for Willie Thornton's Thistle circa Saturday, 12th August, 1961, having most recently been with Rutherglen Glencairn. Aged 17, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 10th November, 1962, in a 1-0 win at home to Dundee in the SFL First Division. Ian scored his first goal for Thistle on Saturday, 24th November, 1962, in a 2-0 win away to Celtic in the SFL First Division. He scored the last of his 16 goals on Wednesday, 22nd September, 1965, in a 6-2 friendly win away to Queen of the South. He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 9th October, 1965, in a 2-1 defeat at home to Morton in the SFL First Division, having appeared as a Jag on 97 occasions. His club-list included Camelon, Falkirk, Rutherglen Glencairn, Partick Thistle, St Johnstone, Dunfermline Athletic, Southend United, Hong Kong Rangers, Oostend, Albion Rovers and Whitburn Junior. Ian died on Tuesday, 15th November, 2016, aged 71. |
