Ian Guthrie Campbell was born on Monday, 13th September, 1920, in Old Kilpatrick, West Dunbartonshire.

The 5' 11 (10st 12lbs) forward signed for Donald Turner's Thistle on Monday, 12th September, 1938, having most recently been with Rothesay Royal Victoria.

Aged 19, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 23rd September, 1939, in a 4-2 friendly defeat away to Celtic.

Ian scored his only goal for Thistle on Saturday, 18th May, 1940, in a 3-1 win at home to St Mirren in the Regional League, Western Division.

He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 21st December, 1940, in a 2-1 defeat away to Heart of Midlothian in the Southern League, having appeared as a Jag on 9 occasions.

His club-list included Rothesay Royal Victoria, Partick Thistle and Albion Rovers.

Ian died in January, 1971, in Chapel-en-le- Frith, Derbyshire, aged 50. *

Bio Extra

Signed from Rothesay Royal Victoria, the forward made his 1st senior appearance against Celtic on 23 September 1939, just over a year after signing for the Jags. Thistle lost the friendly match at Celtic Park 4-2. He played on 5 occasions during 1939-40, 4 Regional League West matches, and a Glasgow Charity Cup Quarter Final defeat against Clyde at Shawfield. His single goal was in a 3-1 Regional Leage West match against St Mirren at Firhill. Season 1940-41 saw Tom play on 3 occasions in the Southern League, his last match being in December 1940, a 2-1 defeat to Hearts. Ian joined the RAF, and a press report in April 1945 recorded him being “missing”. He was registered as a Thistle player throughout the war years from1938-39 to 1945-46. He is also reputed to have played for Albion Rovers. Ian died in Derbyshire in January 1971 aged 50.
