Hugh Murdoch |
Hugh Murdoch was probably born in Scotland, although his place and date of birth remain unknown to us. * The midfielder signed for Thistle on Tuesday, 14th April, 1903 (after a trial period), having most recently been with Kirkintilloch Rob Roy. He made his debut appearance on Saturday, 4th April, 1903, in a 2-0 win at home to Rangers in the Inter City League. There were no goals for Hugh during his time with Thistle. He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 7th May, 1904, in a 1-0 friendly defeat away to Albion Rovers, having appeared as a Jag on 30 occasions. His club-list included Kirkintilloch Rob Roy, Partick Thistle and Bo'ness. We don't know where or when Hugh died. *

Hugh spent just over a full season at Meadowside, featuring in 18 of the competitive fixtures if 1903-04, almost always in the #5 position. It was a more than decent season for the club, who finished 6th= in what was a very entertaining and competitive top-flight competition, Third Lanark taking the title and Hearts taking the runners-up spot. Hugh made the switch to Bo'ness for season 1904-05, who were one of the instigators in reforming the Eastern Football League for that season. Hugh settled there for a number of seasons, and represented Linlithgowshire FA in inter-association matches. By 1910 he was playing works football with the Star Foundry Patternshop. |
