![]() Hugh stepped up from the juniors in March 1938, moving from Stoneyburn to Second Division Dunfermline Athletic. He'd be a registered Dunfermline player for 8 seasons, racking up well over 100 appearances, with a number of wartime distractions here and there. By consent, he played an entire season with Dumbarton in 1940-41 and, indeed, lined up against Thistle in November of that campaign, being on the right side of a 2-0 win at Boghead. He also guested for Airdrie that season, and did likewise with Thistle in November 1941. Ironically, his only appearance as a Jag was in a 4-3 win at home to Dumbarton in the Southern League - Hugh was on the right side again! In late November 1943, Hugh joined Dundee United from Dunfermline Athletic on a temporary transfer for a two leg North Eastern League Supplementary Cup tie against Hearts which United lost by 10 goals to 7 on aggregate. And, no, that doesn't include a penalty shoot-out! By consent, he also played 4 North Eastern League games with East Fife that season. Hugh had another couple of months back at Dumbarton in early 1945. Hugh's professional career finished at Leith Athletic, with whom he was a fringe player for 2 seasons from 1946-47. They finished bottom of the second tier in Hugh's final season although he didn't feature in any of the games which contributed to that lowly finish. |
